Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle Brut Champagne (Case of 6)
Producer
Laurent-Perrier was founded by Eugene Laurent in Tours-sur-Marne in 1812...
While they are known first and foremost for their Rosé, they are now one of the most highly-regarded Champagne houses due to the quality of the entire range, all vinified by winemaker Michel Fauconnet. This extends from the non-vintage Brut to the Vintage and the iconic Grand Siècle Brut, which competes with the very best that Champagne has to offer.
Vineyards
Michel Fauconnet has identified the best twelve Crus or villages for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir such as Ambonnay, Verzenay, Mailly, Avize, Cramant, Choully and le Mesnil-sur-Oger; all of the twelve are classified Grand Cru, that is the highest rating that Champagne vineyards can achieve. From within these, only the finest micro-parcels of grapes are taken. Rather than being the product of one year, this wine is a blend of three exceptional vintages.
Vinification
There is a further sorting in the winery, where the top `Cuvée` or free-run juice is identified and sent to separately-housed fermentation vats. After the first fermenation, the base wines are blended and then bottled before being aged in the cellar for over five years to gain the yeasty, autolytic character of bread, almonds and honey.
Tasting Notes
The Grand Siècle is brilliant yellow in colour. Subtle hints of honey and hazelnuts on the nose, with grilled almonds and a touch of fresh pastry following on the palate. Powerful and well-rounded, this wine is rich and savoury, finishing with a deliciously honeyed but fresh long finish.
