NV Quinta do Portal 10 Year Old Tawny Port, Portugal

Matured in wood this 10yr old Tawny Port makes an excellent gift and is perfectly presented in this silk lined oak case. The Wine - Quinta da Romaneira was bought in 2004 by Christian Seely, who is known for his extensive experience in running the renowned Quinta do Noval. Since arriving in the Douro in the 1990s, it has been his dream to own Quinta da Romaneira and restore the property to its former glory. The estate is situated in the Cima Corgo district, in the heart of the Douro Valley. The superb location, along 2km of the Douro River, provides ideal conditions for the production of high quality wines, both dry and fortified, from local varieties. All the vineyards for the reds are classified ?A? Grade; aromatic white varieties are grown at high altitude for Romaneira?s delicious dry white wine.

81 hectares of vineyard have been replanted with the principal aim of producing dry wines, and a small range of ports. The vineyards are planted mainly with noble Douro varieties, and all 76 Ha of red grapes are planted on ?A? grade Douro Schist terraces. Yields are typically very low, ranging from 20 ? 25 hl/Ha

Vintage Information

The 10 year old Tawny is a blend of wines with an average age of ten years.

Grapes were trodden by foot and fermented in stainless steel lagares, with temperature control at 28║C. The old Tawnies spend their entire life in barrel until the moment of the final blend and are bottled on demand.

Tasting Notes

A blend of wines with an average age of 10 years in cask, the 10 year old has acquired the classic nutty, dried fruit, spicy characteristic of classic wood aged tawny Port while still retaining a freshness on the finish. Balanced and elegant, it should be drunk slightly chilled.
