The area is famous for its premium quality, cool climate wine production, its proximity to the Southern Ocean ensuring the slow ripening of the grapes which enhances fruit composition and aromatic qualities. Plantagenet’s five vineyards are located to the south and west of the town. Winemaker John Durham joined from Cape Mentelle in 2007.
Vineyards
Fruit is sourced from their Crystal Brook Vineyard, planted in the mid 80`s on a sun drenched north facing slope and very deep gravelly soil. The vines were grafted to clone 114 and 115 eight years ago and are now beginning to find the true quality potential of the site. A small percentage of the blend came from their original low yielding Bouverie vineyard planted in 1980 with the local droopy clone.

Tasting Notes
Luscious cherry and blackberry aromas greet the nose, wrapped with chocolate and vanilla. A sumptuous, textural palate with not a thing out of place, layered complexity and long berry flavours coated with lingering spicy cherry flavours.
