Redfin Shiraz Australian Wine
Producer
Redfin was created by Liberty Wines, working with winemaker Tim James, with the specific aim of producing wines from Australia that once again generated excitement at this price level...
Australia achieved its number one position by over delivering on quality, but in recent years an emphasis on promotion seems to have become more important than quality.
Vineyards
The grapes are all sourced from selected vineyards in South Australia, with 60% of the fruit coming from the McLaren Vale and the remaining 40% coming from Riverland.
Vintage Information
The 2008 vintage began with early bud burst and ideal growing conditions, so intense flavour development was achieved early in the growing season. Grapes harvested early in the season produced wines of exceptional depth and structure.
Vinification
The grapes were all de-stemmed and crushed then cold macerated on the skins for three days at 12ºC to extract primary fruit flavour compounds. Maceration on the skins continued for a further seven days to extract colour and tannin. Oak maturation took place using 100% French oak for 14 months.
Tasting Notes
Deep, bright purple in colour with aromas of concentrated dark berries and a touch of mulberry, vanilla and cinnamon spice from the oak. On the palate this wine is youthful and intense with generous juicy plum and dark berry fruit. The tannins are ripe and fine grained with a balanced and lengthy finish.
