Calbuco Sauvignon Blanc
Producer
With the Calbuco range, we set out with Alberto Antonini to produce a range of modern wines offering excellent value for money. We wanted to capture the vibrant fruit that characterises Chile’s best wines, but give them a bit more depth and structure...
We believe that Alberto has succeeded in doing this. Calbuco is a volcano in the Andes, as striking a symbol of Chile as its wine
Vineyards
The vineyards are located in Chile’s Central Valley, the strip of land between the Pacific and the Andes. The climate here is strongly influenced by both the ocean on one side, and the mountains on the other. Soils are very mixed with some clay as well as the usual Chilean patchwork of loam, limestone and sand.
Vinification
The grapes were hand-picked, destemmed and crushed in an oxygen-free environment. The must was quickly chilled to help preserve aromas and then pressed. The juice was allowed to settle for 36–48 hours prior to fermentation at 12º–14ºC. The wine was then racked off its lees and remained in tank until bottling
Tasting Notes
Light, lime-gold in colour, the nose opens with fresh and lively aromas of citrus fruit especially grapefruit and lime. Medium-bodied and juicy on the palate, it has a zesty twist on the finish.
