Calbuco Semillon/Chardonnay (Case of 12)
Producer
With the Calbuco range, we set out with Alberto Antonini to produce a range of modern wines offering excellent value for money. We wanted to capture the vibrant fruit that characterises Chile’s best wines, but give them a bit more depth and structure...
We believe that Alberto has succeeded in doing this. Calbuco is a volcano in the Andes, as striking a symbol of Chile as its wine.
Vineyards
The vineyards are located in Chile’s Central Valley, the strip of land between the Pacific and the Andes. The climate here is strongly influenced by both the ocean on one side, and the mountains on the other meaning very fresh, aromatic wines with very precise, clean flavours. Soils are mixed with clay here as well as loam, limestone and sand.
Vinification
The grapes were hand-picked, destemmed and crushed in an oxygen-free environment. The must was quickly chilled to help preserve aromas and then pressed. The juice was allowed to settle for 36–48 hours prior to fermentation at 12º–14ºC. The wine was then racked off its lees and held in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks until bottling.
Tasting Notes
Bright intense yellow in colour, this wine has perfumes of tropical fruit and cantaloupe melon on the nose, with the Semillon adding a waxy, lemony note. Similar characteristics follow through to the extremely fresh palate.
