Chocalan Sauvignon Blanc Selección ( Case of 12)
Producer
Chocalan’s 80 hectares of vineyard are situated in a part of the Maipo Valley not previously planted with vines, between the Andes and the Coastal Mountain range...
The proximity of the vineyards to the Pacific Ocean ensures that the heat of the warm days is mitigated by the cool breezes that are funnelled down the valley at night. This ensures a longer ripening period and more elegant, less jammy wines as a result.
Vineyards
The 2010 Sauvignon Blanc grapes were taken from Chocalan`s own vineyards in Maipo. The vines are located in the Isla de Maipo, between the coastal area, where the winery is situated and the central area. The vineyard is sheltered from the sun so the wines are fresh and aromatic in style. Soils here are clay and gravel.
Vintage Information
The 2010 vintage was a cooler one than 2009 and harvest was 1-2 weeks later as a result. This also means the wines have a high natural acidity and demonstrate great varietal expression.
Vinification
Grapes were hand picked at the beginning of April. Maceration lasted for six hours at a temperature of 6°C and the grapes were then pressed. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts at 12-14°C. After fermentation, the wine stayed on its lees for 60 days in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
Tasting Notes
The 2010 is bright yellow in colour with lively orange, lemon and crushed herbs on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied, with excellent balance of natural acidity and ripe citrus and stone fruit. The finish is long and fresh.
