Redfin Adelaide Hills/McLaren Vale Chardonnay Australian Wine
Producer
Redfin was created by Liberty Wines, working with winemaker Tim James, with the specific aim of producing wines from Australia that once again generated excitement at this price level...
Australia achieved its number one position by over delivering on quality, but in recent years an emphasis on promotion seems to have become more important than quality.
Vineyards
70% of the fruit for this wine comes from vineyards in the Adelaide Hills with the remaining 30% sourced from the McLaren Vale. The cool nights in the Adelaide Hills ensure an accumulation of elegant and aromatic fruit flavours in the grapes, while the fruit from the warmer McLaren Vale lends depth and fullness to the wine.
Vintage Information
Aside from a small burst of heat in November which slightly affected fruit set, the 2010 growing season was consistent and mild, producing ideal growing conditions. Ripening occurred quickly due to slightly lower crops and lack of rainfall. 2010 has produced wines with great intensity, good varietal character and exceptional balance.
Vinification
The must was cold settled and then fermented at 13°C in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. A little wild yeast fermentation was allowed to take place to add complexity and depth. The wine matured for three months in stainless steel tank with no oak ageing.
Tasting Notes
Vibrant pale lemon green in colour with lifted white peach perfumes on the nose with touches of rockmelon, paw paw, lime zest and green apple. On the palate it is well balanced with lively acidity supporting the ripe grapefruit and lime character and a creamy mouthfeel from the subtle lees contact.
